From the living area, you can step into the double bedroom offering superb views over the front garden and surrounding countryside. After a busy day, store muddy boots and wet gear in the corridor leading to the rear garden. Blandford Forum is the most complete, small Georgian town in England, set on the banks of the River Stour. Fires destroyed the town in the eighteenth century and the town gradually rebuilt. The town has a charming parish church and a wonderful marketplace. Surrounding the marketplace are an assortment of local independent shops and well-known "brand" shops as well as cafes, pubs, and supermarkets. The town also has indoor and outdoor markets each week. Blandford Forum is home to one of Dorset’s breweries – Hall & Woodhouse. Drop in for a tour of the brewery, sample, or buy the famous "Badger Beer".
There are a few trails to try around the town, cycle along the old trailway between Blandford and Sturminster Newton taking in fabulous Dorset scenery all the way. At Shillingstone is a cafe, offering needed refreshment for your trip back. Have a bite to eat in the cafe, alfresco, or in the restored buffet coach.
By far the biggest event in the area is the annual Great Dorset Steam Fair held at the end of August. The event has grown every year and now sits on a 600-acre site. It is the leading show of its kind in the world, attracting a lot of international attention.
