Description

This property enjoys an idyllic location on the owners’ land in North Dorset, close to the border with Somerset. The surrounding countryside is perfect for country walks and cycle rides, especially with the Cranbourne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the edge of which is just six miles to the east of the property. A few miles away, the town of Shaftesbury will be instantly recognisable to many, particularly the town’s steep, cobbled street Gold Hill also known as Hovis Hill, due to its role in the nostalgic TV adverts. The town of Bruton also makes a great place for a day trip and has become somewhat of a magnet for young fashionable day-trippers, thanks to its world-class art gallery, upmarket eateries, and chic bars. Other places of interest in the area include Longleat Safari Park, Glastonbury Abbey, and the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

This barn conversion property is one of three at this location and offers spacious accommodation for six guests. The large lounge is the main social space in the property and has two comfortable sofas, a wood burner-effect electric fire, a TV/DVD, and French windows which open out onto the property’s enclosed garden. The kitchen/diner is just as generously sized as the lounge and again, has patio doors that allow guests to open this space onto the garden. There is a dining table in this room alongside the cooking equipment and appliances which include an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. One of the property’s three-bedroom is also located on the ground floor, a pleasant king-size room which is located conveniently next to the bathroom which offers a shower-over-bath and WC. Upstairs, there are two further bedrooms, one of these is another king-size room, this time benefitting from an en-suite shower room with shower and WC. The third bedroom is a twin room.

Outside, there is an enclosed garden to the rear of the property which is mainly set to lawn, with a patioed seating area offering a table and chairs, making it great for alfresco dining. An unusual addition to the garden is the vintage horse-drawn carriage, one of a number that the owner has collected over the years. There is ample parking.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury is one of the highest and oldest towns in England, a beautiful town sitting in a glorious landscape. The town is the home of Gold Hill, made famous by the “Hovis” advert and with views across the Blackmore Vale and thatched cottages, it is very picturesque. The main shopping is around the High Street where there are lots of small, independent retailers as well as coffee shops and cafes and you will find craft shops down the side streets. Shaftsbury market takes place on Thursdays and sells local produce, all against the backdrop of Gold Hill and spectacular views.

In July, the Gold Hill Fair is a weekend event with music, dance and more. In June, join in with the Shaftesbury festival. This is a weeklong celebration, enjoy music, entertainment and even dog shows - fun for all the family. At the end of August visit the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show. This has over 500 exhibitors and a host of events making this a fantastic day out for all the family, jam-packed with entertainment for all ages.

Longleat House, the Safari and Adventure Park, is a great day out and is just a 30 minute drive away. You can see lions, tigers, wolves, cheetahs and a whole host of other animals. There are seasonal events and tours on offer or visit the house and gardens. Explore Old Wardour Castle, run by English Heritage. The castle featured in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, find the turrets and the views from the top of the castle to beautiful countryside beyond.
