Drimpton is a small village in the heart of rural West Dorset, just half a mile from the Somerset border and 4 miles from Devon. The area is good for walking and cycling and is within easy reach of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. In Drimpton is Brookfield Lodge, a bright and spacious bungalow in the grounds of the owner’s home. Thoughtfully laid out, the rooms are generously sized and accessible for wheelchair users. There is a games room with table tennis and table football, and at the rear is a paved area where guests can enjoy views of horses quietly grazing in the paddock beyond. Brookfield Lodge is comprised of a smart kitchen, lounge with glazed doors to the sitting out area and two bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room. In addition to the en-suite, there is a purpose-built wet room.

This bright and airy detached bungalow is on the grounds of the owner's home. There is a games room with table tennis and table football and to the rear, accessed via the lounge, is a paved area where guests can enjoy a BBQ whilst watching the owner's horses quietly grazing in the paddock beyond.

Free-range eggs and honey produced from the owner's bees at Brookfield Lodge are available to purchase.

Thorncombe

Thorncombe is a small village in the heart of West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is a farming village. A great treat for those wildlife enthusiasts is Thorncombe wood. The dormice, song thrush, marsh tit and lesser spotted woodpecker, all red-listed birds of conservation concern, breed in the wood. There is a village store in Thorncombe but no pubs or restaurants in the village. A short trip in any direction will give you a wealth of choice at pubs in the surrounding, pretty villages. There are a wealth of walks in this area of West Dorset to discover. These include Thorncombe Woods, Tansee Hill and Forde Abbey. Footpaths in the area link into the national long-distance network via the Jubilee Trail, Liberty Trail, Monarch’s Way and Wessex Ridgeway Trail.

Forde Abbey is a short drive away and is a fabulous former Cistercian monastery that is designated as a world heritage site. With a history spanning 900 years, it has a beautiful interior that featured in the film adaptation of ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’. The gardens are award-winning and constantly evolving with lots to see in every season. It is home to the highest power fountain in the country, reaching 160 feet. The gardens have formal and informal planting. Garden areas include a walled garden, bog garden, park garden and rock garden.
