Weymouth has been a popular choice of holiday destination for many years and is bursting with fun-filled activities; discover a world of underwater creatures at Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park, with over 2,000 creatures including otters, sea turtles, penguins, and plenty of fish, it's a great day out and even has a Splash Zone play area for children in summer. Delight in the sights of the brightly coloured beach huts, golden sands and safe shallow waters of Weymouth Beach, often named in the top ten beach destinations in Europe, it's not hard to see why! The wonderful esplanade that runs parallel to the beach is perfect for leisurely strolls or bike rides, with gorgeous views out to the Jurassic Coast, and it also connects the Lorton Valley Nature Park to Radipole Lake Reserve, making it a great way to explore too and see some wildlife in their natural habitats.

Don't miss a visit to Nothe Fort, an impressive Victorian-built fortress, made to protect Portland Harbour and home to a network of underground passages, it's rich in history and also affords wonderful views over to Portland and Weymouth Bay. The property is only 5 minutes away from Smallmouth beach - a small enclosed beach perfect for paddle-boarding, kayaking or paddling. From here you can see the windsurfers and kitesurfers using the harbour where some of the water events of the 2012 London Olympics took place.

The OTC Watersports Centre is also a 5 minute drive away, located right on the water’s edge and caters for windsurfing, kitesurfing, wing-foiling and stand up paddleboarding. On Portland, the working lighthouse can be climbed and the visitor centre explored before enjoying lunch at the Lobster Pot which has beautiful views over to the Jurassic coast. Walkers can delight in hopping onto the South West Coast Path for more coastal scenery while staying active, or for a more relaxed jaunt head along the Rodwell Trail.

Other things not to miss include SandWorld to see the creative sculptures carved and give it a go yourself with the help of some tools and friendly staff, the Isle of Portland, the 18-mile long Chesil Beach, fishing at Weymouth Harbour, and lots more. Area Details

Wyke Regis

Wyke Regis is a village tucked away between Weymouth and Portland and is an ideal location to explore the local area, World Heritage Jurrasic Coastline and the Rodwell Trail.

The hub of the village is the square “Old Wyke”. This has a few traditional shops within the square and cobbled parking. Wyke has a local supermarket, a fish and chip shop, and a pub. The Village has a surfing shop for all those watersports enthusiasts. Take the bus into Weymouth or Portland from Wyke. The village lies along the Rodwell Trail. The track follows the old Weymouth to Portland Railway line for 2 miles between Weymouth to Wyke Regis. It makes for a great walk with great views and is a good way to get to Weymouth. The walk appeared on the BBCs ‘Railway Walks’ with Julia Bradbury. There are a few beaches you could explore too. Sandsfoot Castle is well worth a visit. See the ruins, enjoy the spectacular views over a drink from the cafe and wander down to the small sandy cove.
