Less than 1 mile from the cottage, Osmington Bay beach is within easy reach, rewarding visitors with a large pebbly beach and blue sea. Or enjoy a stroll to the pub, located 1.5 miles away, and pour over the local menu. Further up the coast, the iconic Durdle Door is only a 10 mile drive and a must for anyone in the area, whether you are making a quick pitstop or spending the whole day.
Coming in through the front door your eye will immediately be drawn to the period stone fireplace with fantastic detailing, where a functioning wood burner now makes itself at home. Facing the lounge area, the wood burner is not only an attractive feature but a truly atmospheric addition in winter as it throws a rosy glow across the room. Flop on the sofa with one of the many books provided or inhale the hot wisps of steam from a freshly brewed cuppa. Sporting an open plan design, the downstairs living area has an intimate, social feel, whilst still providing plenty of space to spread out. On the far side of the living area, a dining table sits next to the window, ready for dinner time or a game of cards. Partly separated by a fantastic original archway, downstairs is also home to a kitchen. Stepping through the archway and down a couple of steps, the kitchen is surprisingly spacious and equipped with an oven and hob, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Heading up the original stone, turret style staircase with rope handrail, you will come to a small landing with a few more steps, and then the bedroom. Home to a double bed, the bedroom s huge French style doors open up to let in a refreshing breeze as well as garden and countryside views. On the opposite side of the bedroom to the windows is the bathroom. Here, you can find a bath with overhead shower, sink and WC. The bedroom has slightly reduced height in the eaves.
Heading outside, the property s rear garden, accessible via two steps, includes a pretty, gravelled area. Another three steps lead you up to a spacious raised deck, affording views of the village and hills beyond. Osmington is a small village with narrow streets lined with picturesque thatched cottages. The village is very popular with walkers wanting to see the White Horse ingrained in the hillside. Built in 1808 to honour King George III, who was a frequent visitor to the area. The figure on the hillside depicts the King riding a horse who sadly did not survive long enough to see this famous landmark.
Osmington Mills is a 10-minute walk along the coast path. Soak in the stunning views along the way. Visit the very pretty and very popular pub The Smugglers. The pub tells tales of the French smuggler, Pierre Latour, in the 17th century. Sit back, take in the stunning views and the excellent home-cooked food. It is well worth a visit.
