Upwey is just a short drive to the seaside town of Weymouth, where you will find an award-winning golden sandy beach with shallow waters and a Georgian seafront. To the east you can stumble across the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Lulworth Cove and the iconic landmark of Durdle Door, offering magnificent scenery and stunning sands, it’s the perfect place to dip your feet in the waters or go for a paddle. The Isle of Portland and Chesil beach can be found to the West and offer incredible views in all directions, you’ll be spoilt for choice as to where to go next. Upwey is a very picturesque village. With the beautiful countryside surrounding the village, you could easily forget that Weymouth is so close. The Upwey Wishing Well has been a tourist attraction from Victorian times. It remains so to this day with a tea room serving home-made cakes and home-cooked food. Surrounded by ornamental gardens and the river, and of course, the well itself.
Upwey has 2 pubs in the village The Old Ship Inn and The Royal Standard, who brew their own ales. Island Garden Nurseries is a must for keen gardeners, full of plants and friendly advice. Take a seat on the bench by the stream and breathe in the fresh country air.
