Area Details

Ringstead is a small hamlet dominated by Ringstead Bay and beach and is part of the Jurassic Coast. The beach is a mix of pebble and shingle with some sand. You can often find rock pools at the Western end of the beach at low tide. There is a reef close to shore which becomes revealed at low tide. Therefore, the beach can be a good place to look for fossils. A shop and cafe are available in the car park for the beach. For those that are windsurfing from here please note the reef has no respect for fins. I have lost count the number of times I have connected with it. Ringstead has excellent views of Weymouth and Portland. It is an excellent base for walking with many options open to you including continuing on to Durdle Door. The Smuggler’s pub at Osmington Mills is the next village on. This is within easy walking distance along a coast path so you don’t have to resort to taking to the car if you don’t want to.
