You will visit the beautiful Church Ope Cove with Rufus castle and XIII century church ruins, three lighthouses with the popular Portland Bill. The island is a heaven for birdwatcher and wildlife lovers. Visit Quiddles café at the end of the promenade on the Chesil beach for a crab sandwich or fresh fish dish. The nearby Cove House Inn is famous for traditional pub food and ales. St John’s View will suit those who enjoy water sports with National Sailing Academy being close-by. The seaside town of Weymouth is only a few minutes’ drive from the property too with a long sandy beach and various beach attractions for children and adults alike. Fortuneswell covers quite a large area. From just below the top of the island with its amazing views along Chesil Beach to the bottom of the hill where it blends into Chiswell. As you descend from the Heights Hotel you will see the Olympic Rings sculpture to commemorate the 2012 Olympics. Portland hosted the sailing and windsurfing events. Further down you will see a statue by a local artist titled "The Spirit of Portland" with more great views along Chesil Beach. Fortuneswell has many shops including a Co-op, Boots and the Royal Manor Theatre.
The walking from Fortuneswell is good but do remember you are on a slope. Therefore, an easy walk one way will be harder on the way back! Walk to the High Angle Battery, an 18th-century gun emplacement. Tout Quarry Nature Reserve and Sculpture Park are opposite the Heights Hotel. Artists have been creating sculptures to leave around the park since 1983. Famous sculptures include the Falling Man by Sir Antony Gormley. Chesil Beach is easily accessible if you fancy a walk along the sea. There are several pubs, restaurants and takeaways all available within Fortuneswell. A short walk to Chiswell gives you many more options to eat out and all within walking distance.
