The hilltop town of Shaftesbury is well worth a visit and is home to the famous Gold Hill. Set within rolling pastureland known as the Blackmore Vale, there is an abundance of routes suitable for walking and riding within this picturesque landscape. Accessible attractions include Stourhead, Salisbury Cathedral, The Longleat Estate, Stonehenge and Haynes Motor Museum, the Jurassic Coast, Corfe Castle, Dorchester, Weymouth, Monkey World and the Tank Museum.

A driveway leads to the private entrance into this detached property. Once inside you are met with a charming lounge, complete with an inglenook feature fireplace with a cosy wood burner and a TV. Heading through the lounge will take you into the contemporary kitchen. This space is equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge with an ice compartment. Just next door is a dining room, which gives access to a twin zip-and-link bedroom with 2’6″ beds, (which can be arranged as a king-size bed on request). The property has a rear lobby with a useful utility area with a washing machine. Next door is a contemporary shower room with a shower and WC. From the lounge, a steep, narrow and winding set of cottage-style stairs leads to the first floor and an inviting double bedroom with exposed beams. Due to its setting within the eaves, there are areas of restricted head height in this room, which only adds to its character and charm. The bedroom is open to the steep staircase and care should be taken with children.

Heading outside via the main entrance or rear lobby there is a patio with furniture to the front and side of the property and lawns surrounding it on two sides, which boast lovely views over open countryside. To the front of the property, there is off-road parking suitable for two cars, accessed via an unmade driveway.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Shaftesbury

Shaftesbury is one of the highest and oldest towns in England, a beautiful town sitting in a glorious landscape. The town is the home of Gold Hill, made famous by the “Hovis” advert and with views across the Blackmore Vale and thatched cottages, it is very picturesque. The main shopping is around the High Street where there are lots of small, independent retailers as well as coffee shops and cafes and you will find craft shops down the side streets. Shaftsbury market takes place on Thursdays and sells local produce, all against the backdrop of Gold Hill and spectacular views.

In July, the Gold Hill Fair is a weekend event with music, dance and more. In June, join in with the Shaftesbury festival. This is a weeklong celebration, enjoy music, entertainment and even dog shows - fun for all the family. At the end of August visit the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show. This has over 500 exhibitors and a host of events making this a fantastic day out for all the family, jam-packed with entertainment for all ages.

Longleat House, the Safari and Adventure Park, is a great day out and is just a 30 minute drive away. You can see lions, tigers, wolves, cheetahs and a whole host of other animals. There are seasonal events and tours on offer or visit the house and gardens. Explore Old Wardour Castle, run by English Heritage. The castle featured in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, find the turrets and the views from the top of the castle to beautiful countryside beyond.
